3.73 or 4.10 on my 67 f-250

Post by Joshj963 »

hi guys i'm new here and know nothing about working on my truck. :hmm:

i have a 1967 F-250, 352 big block with 4.10 gears. my problem is @ 65 mph i'm cranking 3100 rpm and @70 mph 3500 rpm. I'm thinking about changing to Dana 3.73, does anyone have this setup or any advice?

P.S. i work out of my truck but i don't tow or carry any any thing in exsess of 500-600 lbs. Mostly around town but i do take it down the highway 2-5 times a month.

Thanks for any help guys.

:hi: and :wel: to the site.

I also run 4:10R&P. I know what you mean by the high RPM. I sometimes wish I would had goto 3:73s. You could probably go on down to 3:54s. Get some more opinions from the folks that are running these gears.

Post some pic if you get a chance, we like them pics. Also stop by the welcome mat.

What size tires are you running now? Try a taller tire size like 33's. That will drop your rpm's just a hair.

Yes, they're almost the same engine, a 360 is a bored out 352 with lower compression. Actually I think the 352 was a better engine.

The 3:54 would be good with the manual. 3:73 with a C6.

heep70

so do you think 3.53 or 3.73

i don't want it to be a dog, most of my driving is around town, i would just like to put a cruise kit on and go around 70-75 without cranking 3500-3800 rpm.

Fordification and 68F250 have a formula to figure out what RPM you will be doing using the tire size, R&P and speed. You will be able to see what RPM you will be doing with the combo you want. PM one of those two for that. I know it is here on the forum somewhere also.
