Carburetor issues ????

Post by buckeye_balls7 »

I have a 67' f-250 w/ the original engine in it (352). It has the autolite carb. And it is really hard to start. And after it does start,it runs ***** and then dies after about 5 min. Any suggestions ? I am trying to sell it,and I would get a lot more if i could fix this issue :)

a hot coil could cause that. have you had the carb rebuilt? you could try that also. maybe the engine needs a tune up. so it won't idle right? how does it run going down the road? does the truck die when you put it into gear? do you hear a hissing noise when the truckis running. does the truck die when you press on the gas and that is the only time it dies?

If I can even get it started,it runs poorly, for about 4 or 5 min. Then it dies. Then I won't be able to start it at all for at least 5 or 6 hours. And ,then again, it will take me 5 min just to get it started.

sounds like a coil.
pull a plug, reconnect the lead a turn it over. Is the spark orange/yellow?? or brite blue??
check again after it's been run and dies...

Does any one know of a test you can do to a coil? like a multimeter test to see if its weak?

Thanks Guys. I think my coil is weak. Readings were all over the place :). And it looks like it is older than the truck :)
