1969 ford 460 engine swap

Post by brandynbohlman »

Got a 460 out of 1978 ford f-150 4x4 was wondering what it would all take to put it in my 1969 ford f100 2wd. Any input would be great trying to build sweet ride

you will need motor mount towers from a newer truck(up to 77?) you will need a transmission that fits your 460 for 2wd, probly some odds and end that im forgetting. not a hard swap though. you may need to move your trans crossmember. depends on your trans i think.

:yt: the engine towers up to 79 and the correct bellhousing or transmission for a 2wd.

The best part is with a stroker crank you can come up with a 545 CI engine. I always wanted to do one just to show people what a bump would do. I think it would be best in a SWB stepside :D

Well, that engine has already been under the surgeons scalpel at least once since no F150 4x4 ever came with a 460. If you did a search I bet you could come up with all the information and every small thing you need to know.
BTW out local Good Humor man has a very "sweet" ride. :D

is the engine complete? (intake, carb, accessories, etc)

im an FE man myself, but ive always liked 385 series as well. its a pretty solid engine. very telling when an engine family is offered from 1968 all the way through the mid-late 90's.

also, what transmission does your F-100 currently have? iirc, a 460 will bolt right up to a C6...

The swap is easier than I expected. I got a 79' 2wd donor truck with a 460 w/auto. Used the towers which bolted right in my 68' and the tranny mount lined up to. I have a 2wd so not sure about 4wd. I like pics so here's one of mine.
