Distributor time (DS or optic / + summit's magnetic unit)

Post by FreakysFords »

I don't really want to rebuild my points distributor, so points eliminator kits are out for now.

I know the DS and like the DS, but everything I check lately has had the DS distributor yanked and replaced with a points unit (WHY!!!). At any rate, I can certainly find one if I go looking in earnest.

BUT

I also like the optic systems. I've never ran an aftermarket optic on any of my Fords, just always went DS. I'm seriously thinking about getting Mallory's optic distributor. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=skuImage

I'm also looking at Summit's magnetic unit. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=skuImage

Opinions on these units? I've not yet decided that I'm not going to run DS, so discussion welcomed on these other options. Also if anyone has actually run one of the above please chime in. Then there's still the idea of getting a good points dist and running the Pertronix 3 for rev limiter, but that's a whole other deal.

I used to run Mallory Unilites in my Internationals. Then, I got tired of replacing the sensor. Therefore, I would steer away from the Unilite.

I like the DS setup and will be using it with a GM HEI unit to trigger a TFI coil.
