Can you convert a fixed yoke tranny to the slip yoke? If so what would it take ?

i do not know fo rsure. but i have always wanted to take that yoke off and see if a driveshaft woudl fit onto the splines. you could remove the yoke and try and see if a driveshaft would fit up into it.

Don't think it will work. The length of spline on the mainshaft on the fixed yoke setup will be quite a bit shorter than the splines on a slip yoke setup. Also the threaded part will be taking up some of the length that would be needed to be splines to drive the yoke, and you would have a very short spline contact between shaft and yoke.

swapping output shaft and tail housing from a slip yoke setup. Not that big of a deal on most transmissions, but does require a tear down to swap the shafts.

with all the swapping that has been done with my truck, i have it done. when i had the 300ci and the 3spd manual in it, the trans was supposed to be a bolt on yoke but being i have a swb i had to have a slip on yoke, so i cut the threaded part off the trans. now i have the 429cid and the np435 in the truck and the np435 is for a bolt on application but like before i have to have a slip yoke.... but i have not cut the threads off the trans. yet, i have been driving the truck now a bit and it works. The only reason i cut the threads before on the 3 spd is b/c the drive shaft would bottom out on the output shaft and put everything in a bind, and i had a few extra 3 spds trans just in case i messed up... so that my :2cents: , why do you want a slip yoke, do you have a lwb?

Why not just put a slip yoke in the drive line?

I have a swb . The slip yoke trans has seen better days . But i have a fixed yoke trans that is supposed to be in good shape. So ,you just cut the threaded part off and the drive shaft plugged in ?

that is what i have done on mine and it works for me... you might want to measure the trans that you have and the one you want to install and make sure that they are the same length just to make sure before you cut on the trans output shaft.... hope this helps....
