inner fender well "tweaking"

Post by mebruce »

The parts interchangability page says that a 73-79 inner fenderwell is interchangable with tweaking. What kind of tweaking are we talking about? Also, is the bolt pattern the same for where that bracket mounts to the firewall?

Nope, that's part of the tweaking that would be necessary. You'll have to use the '73-'79 firewall bracket, but it'll require some minor mods to work since the bolt pattern is a little closer together. Or you could just figure out exactly where the new bracket's holes need to be, and then drill new holes in the cowl and use a bolt and nut to secure it. (You can access the back side of this area by removing the fresh-air vents inside the cab.)

Also, you'll have to use the '73-'79 hood hinges, since they bolt to the outside of the fenderwell instead of the inside like ours. However, the hinges' hood flange angles inward instead of outward like ours, so the hood should still bolt up just fine.

There was a member who did this swap a little while back and was reporting on his findings. You'll have to do a search to find that thread. Good luck!
