Vacuum Advanced Distributor??

Post by freeline95 »

I have always been told to put the vacuum hose that goes to the distributor onto a ported vacuum port(vacuum isn't present at idle) on my 390. I'm not sure if that is where it is suppose to be or not. If I leave the hose on a constant vacuum port all the time is their any harm that this will do to my engine? :hmm:

the hose is suppose to go to the bottom passenger side of the carb on a stock autolite carb.

Well, I'm sure no expert on this, but I would expect if you don't have the vacuum advance on a "ported" vacuum you will run the risk of your engine pinging when under load. The ported vacuum would diminish under load and retard the spark a bit to prevent pinging.
