400m tranny work with 429?

Post by 1971ford »

Heres the deal, I can get a free tranny for my '71 since mine is slipping. My '71 has a 429.
The tranny i can get for free is a c6 mated to a 400m. would this tranny bolt to the 429?

and if they dont mount together then that means i might be getting a free $13,000 fully built race c6 for a 460/429 since it wont fit in his bronco behind that 400m

You'll need the flexplate for a 429 but the 400M trans is a direct bolt up.

ok thanks, well i guess thats good news because now i get a non-slipping tranny with shift kit. and if the fully built race tranny doesnt fit with his 4x4 bronco then i get that too

:) Yeah JD I'm aware of that. :)

I didn't point out that not all 400's had the same bellhousing pattern either.

All of the stick shift and C6 backed engines shared the 429/460 pattern.

Certain 73 full size cars with a 400/FMX combo and something like 2.80 gears used the smallblock bell pattern.
