The original is probably C9AZ-7D171

If you have a tranny shop around that can order you stuff from Transtar - their p/n K36430 package replaces the race and upgrades the rear thrust washer to a roller bearing.

should I put 4 clutches in direct with 2 plats instead of the thick plate, and should I put 5 clutches in forward with 2 plats instead of the thick plate? right now I have 3 and 4 clutches with last plates in forward.

how many came out? does it have two different snap ring locations? i would go with the same number unless you had a second snap ring to put more clutches in. then i would put in as many as i could staying in sequence.

Looks awfully dry in there....... Did you soak your new frictions in ATF before assembling??

previous rebuilder got an extra friction in mine by cutting a step in the pressure plate:

Yeah, don't lose the pressure plates. Steels won't stay flat under the pressure. If you want more clutches mod the pressure plate or cut new drum grooves like was said before. I've seen handy tranny guys cut pressure plates with a flywheel grinder when they didn't have a lathe.

I have the clutches soaking right now, and I going to use 3 clutches in direct and 4 clutches with the old plates in forward. the new plates in froward and revers are the wrong thickness but I can use the new in direct. I got a B&N shift improver kit today and should I set it up for stage 1 heavy duty or stage 2 street strip. I am lean towards stage 2

I finely got to the junk yard and almost got the one way clutch race out of a E4OD. I did grab the sun gear, forward hub and planet, and the forward drum. the forward drum I grabbed can hold 5 clutch plates. all the parts I grabbed will switch out with out any issues I think, I will know more when I find my dial caliper
