t-18 shifter pin

i don't know about the pin. i was going to pull the inspection plate and see if it had fell into the the trans. either that or soemone has taken it out. the top cap was loose when i got the truck.

I replaced my pin with a cut off drill bit a couple years ago. The original pin was worn almost to nothing. My shifter seems to have gotten looser again. I guess I should open it up and see how the drill held up.

Like to know how the soft (butt) end of a drill bit holds up to the job! :)

I just measured the butt end of three 1/4" drill bits and they were .248" .248" and ~.2475".
The pin that came from Novak is .250".
The groove size in the lever is ~.255".

I've never owned an F drill bit, always used 17/64" for tapping 5/16/-18 threads.
An F drill bit's tip is .257" so the butt end could be ~.255"? LOL :)

Anyway the butt end of none of my 17/64" drill bits even comes close to fitting in my lever's groove.

If it were mine...
I'd have to look at the lever's groove and decide what to do.
If the tower's hole was wallowed out, I'd make a stepped pin before messing with the lever.
Don't know how deep its hardness is. The tower's hardness is the same all the way to the core.

ps- ever try to find wallered (out) in a dictionary? ;)
pps- G = .261" -.002"= .259" ...might be too much, just have to try it in the lever it was for?
ppps- I'm messing with the stuff out of my parts truck with 141,103 miles on it.

i got lucky today. i was stripping a truck that has a t 18 in it. i couldn't get the tin can to twist . but the shuifter felt real good and tight so i have my parts i need now. i hope.
