removing bench seats
Hey y`all, on a `67 bench seat, is there any way these things slide forward to a point where they pull off the track? I`ve looked and cant see any way to get them out other than un-bolt them and that looks like a pain! Any trick to this?
I love the smell of an old truck in the morning.

I don't recall any trick to my '68, it came all the way forward off the tracks.

If I remeber correctly my 67 bench came out with no problems. 3 bolts on each side of seat. A ratcheting wrench made quick work of them.

re: removing bench seats
I've always just unbolted them, took about 10 minutes tops. I wasn't aware they could come all the way forward off the tracks. In fact, now that I think about it, I don't think they're supposed to. There should be a return spring connecting the seat portion to the track which would have to be disconnected, but even so I'm thinking there should be a tab which will limit forward travel. After all, can't have some super-short person sliding the seat too far forward and then dropping out while they're sittin' in it!

Hmmm, maybe I did unbolt it. It was a long time ago and those brain cells are probably gone.

re: removing bench seats
There are two bolts on the front and two on the rear of each side.
Definetly get a ratcheting wrench, such as a Gear Wrench. There isn't room to use a socket and ratchet. Using a regular wrench is going to take a while due to limited clearance in some spots.
I sure wish I'd had a Gear Wrench.

re: removing bench seats
Thanks Guys, I did try to un-bolt them when I got the truck and discovered that using a socket would take forever. My truck sat in an old garage for 20+ years and under the seat was about half a bushel of pecans and a petrified varmint of some description! It took nerves of steel and heavy gloves to reach under there the first time. Iv`e cleaned under there as good as I can, but need to remove the seat and give it a really good scrubbing. I sometimes wonder how many critters I made homeless when I brought it home.
