Here is another Question that i have. i am getting ready to start the rebuild on my engine. i have it completly torn down to the bare block and i want to get all the old paint off of it. what is the easiest and least expensive way to strip the paint off of it?

if not taking to a machine shop for "vatting" (which really isn't usually vatting anymore)

aircraft stripper, simplegreen, super clean and a pressure washer... (remove the sircraft stirpper befor the pressure waher obviously...)

When I start a major engine project I first use a pressure washer to get all the oil / grease / nastiness off of it. Then it is taken all apart and every piece is cleaned with wire wheels in a drill. You can get an assortment pack of various sizes and types of wheels at Harbor Freight or places like that rather inexpensively. Once that is done everything is nice and clean and about 95% of the paint is off.

After all the machine work is done and the engine is reassembled, clean off any remaining oils with brake cleaner then it is ready for paint.

Rather time consuming, but the rewards are worth it...

gunk and a wire tooth brush, paint stripper and a wire tooth brush..they help too :2cents:

If you don't mind taking it to a engine machine shop, have them hot tank it for you. It don't cost very much, it was I think $15 to do just my heads. And it will come out clean, clean, clean!

sounds like the machine shop would be my best bet. know i just have to find one around Dallas, GA

If I can recall the name, you have a very good one in Austell!

OK, racked my brain and can't think of the name, but look 'em up in the area and it's on 6, close to a car lot as I recall. I drove all the way from here cause they stand behind their work.
