Pulley Questions ? and accessory bracket pics needed...

Post by SportCustom »

I am in the process of putting the accessories and pulleys back on my 390.......I have a big pile of pulleys and brackets and need some direction. I have added power steering, I have a single groove alternator pulley and a single groove p/s pulley. My fan and crank are double groove pulleys labeled as follows:

fan= C8AE-8509A
crank= C8AE-6312E

It is not together at the moment and I need to know if this pulley setup is what I need to get it all working. If not what should I look for in the yards.

Also does anyone have good pics of the brackets mounted to the front of an FE? I would like some pics to see what I need to use from my parts bin.

Thanks in advance!

Only pictures I've got right now...

http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/file12/bypass.jpg (5/8" A/C hose;)
Just looked and could see a couple more that would be cool to have.
I'll take 'em and call 'em...

{had a new "idler1" but was the same as "idler" only better, so replaced it :}

The water pump goes on first. ;)

Ooops!
{The lower A/C bracket goes on before the power steering bracket.}

The power steering bracket goes on second.
The lower alternator bracket goes on second too. ;)
The {rest of the} A/C stuff goes on third.
The alternator's upper bracket goes on last.

My plan has been to take some pictures of the stuff when I pull mine apart next time.
This question keeps coming up. :)

Since you don't have A/C your's will be half as tough to piece together.

I remember helping a guy that had taken his LTD apart and a few weeks later trying to
piece that crazy Ford stuff back on... it was fun for me, I told 'im "why don't you just
let me mess with this and you go on and do something else ;)" Seems like it took me
about two hours to figure it out but only had the original parts and a couple others
mixed in.

Cool, thanks for posting those......I dont have that tensioner/idler setup, is that stock? I need to look at my P/S bracket again also mine looks a bit different. I will investigate mine further when I get back home tonight and figure it out.

Of course yours looks different, it's a Ford ain't it? ;)
"Ford never learned how to make the same part twice ;)" -my Chevy buddies

Yeah, the tensioner is stock, only the bearings have been replaced and I didn't cut the excess
shaft off the idler's new (double-row water-pump) bearing on purpose. Mine's got factory A/C,
the idler pulley and tensioner are for the A/C belt.

'75 F150 360FE T18 A/C PS PB no chrome and no stinkin radio or its antenna ;)
The antenna would have gotten broken off within the first week! No kidding.

No A/C here that explains why I have not seen the tensioner setup....

Should I need spacers for this?

Looks like I am missing something on this p/s bracket....or have the wrong one for a non-a/c truck.

When lined up to the lower waterpump bolt I would need a spacer to the head and another to the top water pump bolt to fit.....is this normal?

that bracket in the picture is upside down. there is asecond part of the bracket that hooked to the face of the pump. you have the mid 70 and up pump bracket. and yes there is a spacer between the head and bracket. washers will work also. here are some general pics of my 68. it has ps pb and factory air. here is a pic also of the power steering brackets you are trying t o use.

Cool. :)
I noticed last night but then was thinking, since his stuff is older than mine... ??
Maybe Ford made one "inside out" from the other?

{edit: heck no it ain't upside down, check out the flanged-nut scratches on that sucker ;}

Don't know nuthin about that. :(

Yeah, my '75 has a ~3/8" thick cast iron A/C bracket behind the power steering pump bracket.
(the "Oops" comment;)
But figured he needed help from someone that doesn't have A/C and is a bump side too. ??

Washers?
Ick! ;)
How about a nut? :)
(if you can't find the spacer in your stuff)

go ahead and try and put it on like that. see how good it works.

i have a pump sitting outside that is just like that. the cup part goes down and the bolt goes through there to the bolt on the other part of the bracket. that is why the marks you are talking about fit through for it.

This is my pump and bracket...

This is the style I need (and you appear to have in your pics...)

Fordman,

My bracket looks a bit different from yours. My pump will only mount in the bracket one way because of the way the belt tension adjustment tab is placed. I must have something later or aftermarket, mine gets awfully close to the filter when mocked up which make me think it may be from a car with a vertical filter adapter.

Guess I need to find the right p/s bracket setup for this.......

Thanks for the help.
