Hey All, I am new to this site and find it extremely helpful, I have a 72 F100 with a 302 and C4 tranny. The tranny needs overhauled and I found a C6 that is available that has already been overhauled for $100. I would like to just swap out the C4 for the C6 but have a question about the drive shaft. Can I just swap out the front driveshaft with one that was designed for a C6? Do the 302 C6 combo trucks also have a 2 piece driveshaft? Other than the driveshaft is there anything else I would have to worry about doing the swap? I sure would appreciate any input from you fellas. Thanks so much.
Dave

Re: C4 to C6 swap
Not that it helps you but I had a 3spd on the column and switched to a c6 on my shortbed and had to have the driveshaft shortened quite a bit.

Re: C4 to C6 swap
I would not personally use a C6 on a small block. The C4 is a more efficient transfer of power.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Re: C4 to C6 swap
Your best bet is to rebuild your c4. A c6 takes a lot of power to turn and are better for extreme duty and big blocks.

Re: C4 to C6 swap
Thanks for the advice fellows, after reading some of the other posts about swapping and the advice to stick what I have, I have decided to do just that, stick with what I have. It's interesting one fellow said he had to take out the suspension crossmember and one guy said he didn,t need too, I tried taking out the tranny without taking it out, would not come out for nothing, also decided if it was that hard trying to get it out what about putting it back in. It was a real pain in the rear to take out the suspension crossmember but well worth the extra space. I look foward to learning alot more from you guys, thanks again!
