Nope.
I have never had an engine that needed more than the stock duraspark II

Re: Electronic ignition??
yep--works great--be sure to cut the little pins off the back--use a good solid piece of aluminum for heat sink and get the real heat sink compound---do not use the di-electric grease
i had some saved pages but comp crashed--search for duraspark conversion in google

Re: Electronic ignition??
Saw an article about that at Circle Track Magazine online.... 'Pony Stock Racing Tech' or some such.... can't find the article anymore....LANCE65 wrote:Has anyone ever converted a duraspark distributor to use a GM HEI 4 pin module? Thanks

Thought it was a neat idea and tried it.....
Couldn't get the darned thing to fire with 2 different Ford(2.3l Pinto) distributors from running engines.....
figured it couldn't hurt to try the Mitsubishi(2.3l Courier) distributor - why not it's here.......
dropped it in and fired right up.
Starting 4th season in a couple months. Currently using with Accel external type HEI coil. Was using the square '80s Ford coil before.

Re: Electronic ignition??
Fordsix als has a thread or maybe even a sticky faq on wiring the HeI module to a DII
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Re: Electronic ignition??
I did this upgrade about a year ago. After installing this with a divorced coil off a 89 *hevy pickup, I gaped the plugs at .045 and it made a huge improvement over the old points ignition.
Thing to look out for though is the HEI makes a great deal of heat on it's backside especially after prolonged idling, make sure to have a great heat sink and use the for mentioned heat sink compound.
Also get the full 12 volts off the ignition switch and don't use the stock resistor wire from the ford ignition (either points or dura-spark)
Wiring is simple, be sure to run a wire for a Tach. if you got one too......
