truck fire! anyone know what a good basic carb setting?

well, after having two fires while trying to start my 390, im tired of guessing, so i'll just ask...

whats a good basic setting for my 2150 carburetor? i need to try to figure out how many turns each screw should have, and how high the float should sit. fuel seemed to be coming from the two holes directly above the float, so i know something isnt right there, but im also pretty sure all the other adjustments are off as well.

any help would be appreciated.

you want the fuel just at the bottom of the peep hole for the float so you can see it but its not pouring out and the general rule of thumb for air/fuel is 1.5 turns OUT. i dont know much about 2150's..im a holley 4412 guy. best of luck to ya. As far as your fires go. it sounds like you are way to rich and it is backfiring through the carb and catching excess fuel on fire. Check your air/fuel screws and tighten up your float..i believe you turn it clockways???? anybody feel free to correct me. also make sure your choke is working

i will try 1.5 turns out on the air/fuel screws. any other tips? i really need to get running here, and would hate to have another fire.

timing was the original issue, but i corrected that problem. now i just need to figure out how to cut back on the massive amount of fuel im getting.

anything in particular i should know about setting up the float? what you said earlier makes sense, but im kind of a noob, so i want to make sure i do it right.

raising and lowering it allows more and less fuel respectivelly to fill the fuel bowl. it acts kind of like the float in your toilet.........
im not sure how to set themon your carb but if you ask around im sure someone will chime in. dont feel shy to PM somebody about it either. sometimes that will get you a faster reponse

i changed my exhaust around a bit so its not just pointing at the ground, which is why the second fire occured (too much fuel igniting in the manifold with an overflowing bowl). replaced my choke pull-off and cleaned up the carburetor a bit (dry chemical on it from the first fire). going back out to try to make adjustments.

since this thread is abondoned. im going to talk about fire. you would not relize it until a fire happens that you have that what do i do pause in your thinking. although. we all know what to do to put out a fire. i had a carb fire i sit there and looked at it going what do i do to put it out. i tried a rag smotthing it. i then put water on it. that was fun. it spread all over the intake. i then told my wife to go in and get the fire extengusher. by the way never try and start a truck with the top of the carb off of it. fire fire ring the bell grab a bucket and run like.....
