Post by mouse »

today in the junk yard I found a 4 speed where 4th is overdrive in a 76 f150 with a i6 that was not installed the best. it has a sensor on top close to the front that had wires dangling. numbers on the drivers side say
RF E41R 7006
C-2604877
numbers on a plate on the passenger side say
RTS AKI JF3
E4TRNA 0519
it also say ford on the drivers side followed by a L in a circle and shift pattern is
13
2DR
it has a tower shifter

Is it the aluminum one with the top shift? I'm looking for one to put in my hotrod.

It is an RTS transmission. It is basically the same as the RUG, except has shifter in the top cover. Most of the gears are identical to RUG gears, right down to the Ford part number. The 176, 177, & 178 transmissions are a variation used in Jeeps with some of the internals the same as RUG/RTS.

I am trying to make a decision on witch to do, rebuild my c6 or get this rts. how good will a rts stand up to a 360 and witch bell housing to get for it to match up? also how can a rts be made strong, and from what combination of parts from a srod, a rug, or a t176?
