Hey all,
Well I've been fighting a header leak since I got my 72 F100 on the right bank. I through maybe I wasn't torquing right, maybe my header is warped, maybe I'm using the wrong gasket. This morning I found out it was a little of all of those, and one other bigger problem. I have a nice chunk of my head missing next to the front-most top head bolt right next to my header.. you can feel the air pouring out of this area.. it was obvious to the naked eye yet I didn't see it when I did my 3G swap or my three other header gaskets.. or my starter.
So.. new heads?

its ahrd to see but if you want to stop the leak it sounds like you need atleast one new one.

Ya, that's why I photoshop'ed it, it was almost completely black to start with.. . It's just in a bad spot to get decent light and ALSO fit the camera in, took this pic with my phone, only thing that'd fit well and get decent enough exposure.fordman wrote:its hard to see but if you want to stop the leak it sounds like you need at least one new one.
I have C8AEH heads.. I'm going to check around town and see if there are any available and go from there. I don't have nearly enough bank for ED's or.. really anything else at the moment.

jam a wooden dowel inthe head bold hole and get it welded with cast iron rods then grind it flush then fill the bolt hole with silicone if you did that it should work for a while maybe that would keep you from pullin the head an havin to hunt one down
if its fixed break it again red white and ford blue the only up hill thats good is the one you are going down

Re: Crack in head, piece missing :(
Got a decent set of used heads (same C8EAH casting) at the local 'yard' for $150. Having Napa send them into their machine shop for me for some hardened valve seats and a quick port job.. waiting for the quote for that one!
Thinking when I have everything apart I'll put in the Edel intake manifold to replace the 2bbl iron intake it's equipped with now.
Found out today that the engine has been rebuilt (at least once), bored with an RV cam, and MAY be stroked. I'll be pulling the oil pan in the next week to check for a crank casting number and replacing the currently leaky gasket. Ran into the son of the original owner.. told me a lot of good stories, then asked if he could buy it back from me.. awkward..
