That bearing race that looks broken is the overrunning clutch. The rollers will come out of the cage, but they pop back in. was one of the rollers actually shattered? i couldn't tell. Have you taken the pump apart yet? check the drive and driven gears inside the pump, and the driven gear has 2 flats on the inside of it, and those mate onto the torque converter, check the torque converter for nicks and scoring. mine was junk. And yes the c6 is a pretty simple rebuild. looks like you're making good head way.

looks like one of the roller springs came apart.
There are parts available to beef up this area of the trans....
The E4OD sprag replaces the roller/cage/washers/snaprings with one handy piece... there is a hardened inner race with needle bearing to replace the old race and thrust washer... both worth doing.

My C6 came apart with chunks of broken pressure plate welded to a dented sun gear shell... 'hard parts' (sun shell, planetary sets, pressure plates, direct drum) came from a $10 core dragged home from the scrapyard.

Rebuild kits come in many flavors......
I went with a basic gasket/rubber/frictions/steels kit and added the extras....
bushings, washers, bearings, sprag updates, pump gears, band, modulator, bonded servo piston. 'crew cut guy' shift kit.

Tried to get the heavy-duty-modified-low-stall rebuilt converter but none at the warehouse so it got a stock rebuilt.

Bought the 'Grit Eater' kit but it seemed kinda flimsy so I made my own adapter plate for a dacron Torqueflite filter..... never did trust that silly screen.

Got it back together and ran 3 cans of 'Cooler Flush' thru all the plumbing and my freshly installed '90s tow-package cooler.....
added a filter mount with temp sender in the return line and called it done.

Drove it and messed with the modulator adjustment a few times and called it done again.

Fabbed a replacement for the missing detent rod and fussed with that some and called it done for sure this time.

:D

A little tid bit i learned when i rebuilt my c6 is contrary to what most people think, on c4's and c6's you don't need to install the valve body separator plate gasket, as it will only blow out. You can run the separator plate straight on the valve body. My best friends dad has worked in a tranny shop for 25 years and he told me after i had already put it back in my truck. When i test drove my truck, it wouldn't shift automatically into 2nd or 3rd. I pulled the valve body and that brand new gasket had blown apart!!! Left it out put it back in and it shifts great. and if you do rebuild it yourself on reassembly, the reverse piston behind the reverse clutch pack should be installed with the little bb check ball in the 6 o' clock position. I had 3 different manuals, and my haynes, nor chilton did not state that but a 1973 ford manual did. Just so ya know

I forgot to mention that I did pull the front pump apart and found nothing wrong, so I flip a coin on whether or not to look at the clutch packs. you got to love when manual don't tell you something you need to know or tells you to install something wrong. thank for the tip. the cage for the clutch race is shatered

I have spent the last week trying to find a bell housing for my fe with no luck, so I am not going to be switching to a rts. I am going to get the rebuild kit today because this is my work truck and I can't have it down to long
