Hey, I just got a '67 F100 not too long ago for a project truck. I was headin down the road the other day testin out the brakes, when my truck got a suddenly wider stance. basically the bearings crapped themselves and the RH tire slowly pulled the axle shaft out of the housing, and the truck doesn't drive as well with three wheels as it does four. Went to the local NAPA shop and they said the axle was too scratched to machine it down and put new bearings on there, so now i gotta find a new one.
The rearend is a 9 inch and as far as I know, the shaft is 29 7/8 inches long with 28 interior splines. Is that correct for this model. Also, does anybody know of any other models that have the same sized axles or anywhere i could pick one up.
Thanks in adnvance

Re: rear axle questions
ask them about a bearing repair sleeve. they make them for mustang and the newer ranger pickups.

Re: rear axle questions
usually the 73 has 31 splines. check the numbers on the third member to find out what splines it has on the rearend chart on the site.

Also the '73 axles will be about 2 inches longer that is if they are in fact 31 splines.

Re: rear axle questions
I just got myself a replacement axle because I had to replace one of the shafts. I have the other shaft still. If you are near me in Texas, let me know.
