Hard To start ... Update
Ok guys I have a 360 with a 2bb carb. I've rebuilt the carb about 2 months ago and put a manual Choke on it wile I was at it. Well for the past 2 weeks It takes me at lest 10 mins to start that truck and even when it warm it take 3 mins, I have to crank let it rest and crank some more.
Im getting gas to the carb no problem, I have good spark, I've took a look all the vacuum hoses, I am replaceing the vacuum advance today. Woud it be my Points? or im not getting any Compression it does have hunderd in 3000 miles on it. Timeing? It wants to die if im not moveing down the road at a good speed. When its in Park the thing Idles great but not when im in gear. Idk what to do any more.

Re: Hard To start ...
I'd suggest you start by checking fuel ines and make sure the choke is closing when you try to start it. After that take a good look for vacuum leaks. Since you recently rebuilt the carb and you have a hard time keeping it running at low engine speeds tells me to suspect a vacuum leak.

Re: Hard To start ...
Have you hooked up a vacuum gauge to get a reading? Also yes, by all means check the timing and points.

Re: Hard To start ...
Did you put on a manual choke carb or just a conversion kit?
Without exception, every conversion kit ever sold is totally junk. The first time you pull the choke without holding down the gas pedal, the whole think kind of collapses and is no longer functional.

It will still look the same, the cable housing slips in the clamp that's supposed to hold it. Maybe this isn't your problem right now but it's still junk, believe me.1971fordcustom wrote:I got the conversion kit. Re: Hard To start ...
I hate to borrow things myself but it might benefit you to borrow your friend's gauge. On a carbed gas engine a vacuum gauge can be a big help when troubleshooting problems.1971fordcustom wrote:I don't have a vacuum gauge I can use one from my friend's but I hate useing any thing thats not mine.AlleyCat wrote:Have you hooked up a vacuum gauge to get a reading? Re: Hard To start ... Update
Well Today I got the vacuum advance installed and put new points in. Now the truck run soooo much better. When the engine is warm all I have to do is bump the key and it fires right off. No more wanting to stall in gear.
Thanks for all the help guys
