Re: dana?
Sure...a few came with a Dana 44 and others with a 5-lug semi-floater Dana 60.

Re: dana?
I like them both. I stay with the 9" rears because far more 1/2 tons used them than Dana rears and I'm the type who likes to have spare parts sitting around just in case I need 'em. I've got 3 or 4 sets of axle shafts, a couple housings and 7 or 8 center sections stashed.

Re: dana?
I only drive F250s so I am a D60 person. In a half ton, the 60 might be a little stouter but the choice of ratios is very limited compared to the 9" and the 9 is easier to set up in my opinion. Loose the crush sleeve though and get the shim/spacer set up.

Re: dana?
I have both the Dana 60 1/2 ton and the 9". I will be using the D60 in one of my trucks just because its a semi rare rear end and I think its cool. I have 9"s coming out my ears so if it breaks I can just replace it. If I had to use only one it would be the 9" simply for parts availability.

Honestly, I really would rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy.

Re: dana?
I agree, and I am in the same situation. However, I put the 9 inch in for now because it was fresh.green68250 wrote:I have both the Dana 60 1/2 ton and the 9". Re: dana?
Hotrod ford, you skipped the number but if it's a 4 speed a lot of F250's came that way so my answer would be yes. If I had a choice though I'd much rather have 3.54's in that Dana. They are a good all around gear ratio for a mix of highway driving and low end grunt.hotrod ford wrote:what if it had 4.10 gears connected to a speed and a 360? would you run this set up?

Re: dana?
Depends on the tire but that's a bit deep for a 1/2 ton with 29 inch tall tires. If you have some more like 32-33 then it wouldn't be too bad, wouldn't use it for a commuter.hotrod ford wrote:oh yeah , i did. it is a 4 speed with a stock dana 60 with 4.10 gears.

Re: dana?
Could have been used for anything. Trucks were trucks back then and people bought them because they needed to haul stuff. Plus everyone wasn't wound as tight and in such a hurry to get everywhere. It was ok to drive 50-55. Look at over the road trucks. They had maybe 220 horsepower and 6.something gears, topped out 62-65 mph. Nowdays they have to have 450-500 horsepower, run 3.88 gears and pass cars going uphill.
