I am still contemplating what transmission to put in my 71 SWB w/ 302. I have looked at T-5, TKO ($$$$) alternatives. My overall motis operandi is to keep it as simple as possible, or, KISS (keep it simple stupid).
I have a 3.00 rear end so all in all a final 1.00 should give me decent cruising speed. That said, sticking with the Ford 3.03 certainly works for me and if i can find an overdrive so much the better.
I was researching the tech data on the 3.03 and it appears there were different ones for different WB length. Does that mean there are variations for the shortbeds vs longbeds? Or, am I misinterpreting something? Or was it as simple as the slip yoke vs fixed yoke?
Thanks,
CB

Re: Ford 3.03 -- SWB vs LWB differences?
Well, my 68 long bed has a short tell housing 3.03 in it, with a 2 peice driveshaft. This truck was all oringinal, (till I tore it apart) bought from the original owner. So I'm not sure about lwb vs swb has anything to do with it or not. It does have a fixed yoke on it though. Maybe someone will chime in and let us know.
The t-5 is doable and afordable if you're not going to be towing.

Yep, AFAIK the only difference is the output yoke....SWB got a slide-in yoke, LWB got the bolt-on. My '67 SWB had the slide-in.

I don't ever recall, out of the hundreds of 3.03s I have owned, ever seeing one with a bolt on yoke.
Can someone take a pic of one and post it along with all the numbers so I can see one?

Here's a couple. No numbers available for the second one.
