T-18 vs NP435

Post by green68250 »

Can I swap an NP435 directly for my T-18 in my '70 F-100? Are the cases the same length? Are their any modifications of the driveshaft length nessesary?

Thanks,

Corbin

They should be identical in length and they should be a direct swap as long as they come out of similar vehicles like a 2wd. I went from a NP435 to a T-19 and it was a direct swap, no mods necessary!

Yeah they are both out of 2wd's. The 435 is out of a '79 crew cab it will be going into my '70 F-100. I will have to figure out a speedo cable though. Any way I could use the speedo gear out of the Dana 21 T-case in my '69 and put it in the 435? I know of a place that will build me a custom speedo cable but if theres an easier way im up for it.

Thanks for the help,

Corbin

I'm a 2wd guy myself. We just bought a '70 4x4 for my dad and it's been a learning process so I'm no help to you there. Good luck!

That's good to know. My truck has a T18, but I have an spare NP435. I guess it's worth keeping.

The gear and retaining setup at the end of the speedometer cable...
...the same between T18's and NP435's since the tail piece is made by Ford?
