Help! 69 Ford engine swap questions
Hello all- I am a newbie here and i have a 69 ford F100 without motor and trans. My question is: will a fuel injected 5.0 liter motor out of a 89 ford crown vic bolt directly into my truck or is there any major mods? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!

yes and no. it depends on what engine you have in it now. if you already have a small block then you are half way there. if not you have to change the trans botl pattern motor perches and exhaust. then you have to deal with a electric fuel pump and the computer as well as the wiing for that.

Do you know what motor it use to have in it? You can look on your ID and find out what it came from the factory with.

Also, an 89 CV is NOT a "HO" or SEFI motor and also is not a roller motor.
The other information you have gotten is correct, if it was originally a small block (which I think did not start until the last half of 69 or 70) it will go in. If not you will have to change the engine stands along with transmissions or bell housings and so forth.

Actually 89 is SEFI, and is roller, but not HO. I have one.
The Crown Vic's and Grand Marquis's came with the "lopo" 5.0. It is easily upgraded to HO (mustang) or Explorer (good truck motor) specs.
Here's an outstanding source of info on the upgrade:

you will need the engine perches and the matching transmission or bellhousing to fit the engine you want to put in. and the radiator hoses to fit both the engine and your radiator. plus whatever wiring and the engine computer for that engine. and of course the correct exhaust for that engine.

So would finding some perches out of a 69 that had a small block in it, and just move back the transmission crossmember be the best way to go?

yes i did forget to mention the trans crossmember. so your answer is yes. except the 390 trans you have has the wrong bolt pattern to bolt up to a 302 /5.0. the 5.0 won't bolt up to your orginal trans.

Re: Help! 69 Ford engine swap questions
best bet here is to grab the trans and engine from the CV as a unit and with the small block the trans crossmember will slide forward about 1-2" maybe 3" inches.
i just did the opposite with mine and went 302 to 390. also you'll need the front half of your two piece drive line to be about 2-3" longer. i beleive the BB FE/FT 352,360,361,390,391 to be about 25" long with a C6 automatic.
and the SB 255,260,289,302,351W to be 27" long with a C4 automatic. this is measured from mid point of the carrier/center bearing.
And likely your CV will be single piece driveline with a slip yoke.
wich means you could maybe go with a one piecer with slip yoke on the truck.
This may be more of a headache than you want. i understand engine availabilities. as i was holding out fr a 302 or 351 W when i finally had to move and get it done with a 390. Turns out the 390 was the best thing i could do. i love it, it melts the tires everytime i move from a stop. just using the normal pressure to move the old 302 around.
anyways back on topic, you may want to find a truck with a mech pump 302 with a c4 or even find a C4. or even better a 351W with a C4 or small block C6.

Re: Help! 69 Ford engine swap questions
I have seen 347 stroker kits in Summit and Jegs for 302's......this will work in the motor i have out of my Crown Vic, right? Has anyone seen this done....are there any pro's and con's? And is it worth all the extra money to buy the forged crank, pistons, etc etc or cast?......thanks again to everyone that has posted! I will get some pics of my build up this weekend!

If you plan on hotroding, and high RPMs very much it is well worth the extra cost for forged bottom end parts. And I would spend the extra $$$ for the stronger bottom end it will stay together alot longer.

And if it came with an FE why go through changing the mounts to put a 302 or 351w in when you could find a 390.
