whats the diff? FOUND!! (rant over price added for free)
i need to replace the clutch in my truck. so i went to the parts store and they asked if i had the 360 or 390. they said that they take a different clutch. i though that they were the same parts except bore and stroke. can someone enlighten me as to whats the diff?

Re: whats the diff?
might be the heavy dutyness of the clutch plate. it should be a 11 inch clutch.

Re: whats the diff?
My '68 CS w/390 also has a 12" clutch with a levered pressure plate (as opposed to a diaphram one).

Re: whats the diff?
Look at both clucthes side by side and I bet they are the same. Unless one is for heavy duty application, that is if both are the same brand name. The pressure plate may be a little stiffer for the 390.

Re: whats the diff?
its in my 68. it has the 360 and originally a 3 on the tree with the "C" code and it dose not have the diaphram type. it also has the hd springs w/over loads. i put the top loader 4 speed in. so i would like a heavier duty clutch if i could get one.

i fond out the diff! 1/2" the 360's is an 11" and the 390's is an 11 1/2". and orieles can only get a complete clutch set for the 360 not the 390. thanks to all those who helped.

Re: whats the diff? FOUND!!
A good 11 inch will hold up fine in the 390 too. I think they all had the B and B finger style back then. Maybe some had the Long version.

I like to try and keep my business in town but I get tired of the raping. I had ordered a needle and seat for my 2 bbl. Holley. With all the frieght and all it ended up $23. I got the whole kit. Holley brand with the good blue gaskets for a 4 bbl (which has 2 of those needle and seat assemblies) and with freight and all it cost me $26 from ebay seller. Also local store wanted $132 for the clutch throw out and slave, got the same one from rockauto.com with shipping for $82
There is a guy on ebay that sells clutches for $70 with free freight.

Re: whats the diff? FOUND!! (rant over price added for free)
I don't know what the situation is where you are, but usually that "raping" is caused by your local government.
For example, here I get whacked $73 every time the local fire inspector walks in the door. He is here 5 minutes max and a few days later the local government sends me a bill for $73. And that is if the fire inspector does not find any problems. If he does, I get whacked more, like $50 for every fire extinguisher that has not been inspected in the last year, and more for other things. Those fees are automatic even if I can fix the problem with the inspector there.
And I get charged about $600 per year for THE RAIN THAT FALLS ON MY BUILDING and there is NO runoff from the property. Latest thing is now it looks like I will be socked again every year, this time for allowing the runoff to soak into the ground!!!! More permits, more paperwork, and more cost every year.
If I hire ONE employee, my paperwork to the state, county, city, local transportation district, metropolitan transportation district, fire district, and so on, goes up to the tune of about 100 wasted hours per year over not having the employee.
And the list goes on and on.
All of those costs require me to raise my prices. If I don't raise them to compensate, I don't eat and eventually I go bankrupt.
So before you lambast your locals, consider that the costs of doing business where you are may be excessively higher than the costs to their competitors in some other state or city.
I am not saying you should shop locally. Doing so for most people would be foolish as they cannot afford it. Just don't blame the business for things the owner has no control over.

Will the same flywheel work for 11 and 11.5" clutches?
