Pertronix and coil question

I am installing a pertronix points eliminator in my dissy and i know that it is wired to the coil on the positive and negative side.
The power from the truck harness goes to the positive on the coil my question is do i need to ground the negative side of the coil?
The wire from the dissy use to connect to the negative side of the coil i was just wondering.
You can pay more but you cant buy better.

Wicked,

Before I installed my Duralast dizzy and Mallory ignition, I too looked at the Pertronix, and downloaded an instructional page from the website below:

As far as I can tell, the only wire connected to the negative terminal on your coil should be the black wire from the ignitor.

Red is positive and black is negative. hook both wires from the distributor to the coil, I would recommend getting the flame thrower coil from pertonix as well just to add to it alittle. it is supposed to help quite a bit. but ya both wires from the dizzy to the coil.

Thanks guys i didnt think i needed to ground the coil i just wanted to make sure. I did get the flame thrower coil also with the points eliminator.

Did the same on mine, The points eliminator and the Flame Thrower Coil. Installed over five years ago and have not had any problem at all. I also opened the spark plugs to .045.

Love mine. Well worth the money. Mine is hooked red to positive on coil and black to negative. It is great, and the flamethrower is a must so you can gap the plugs wider.

So i should gap the plugs at .045 thats a big difference over the normal gap. Thanks for the info guys.

Running a performance coil and the Pertronix should allow for a better spark, and therefore you can get away with a wider plug gap. :wink:

I had the Pertronix and an MSD Blaster coil on my Torino I used to have. It ran great!

Crane Cams now makes something similar that I plan on trying out when I put the 351C in my bump. Only their version includes a rev limiter that's adjustable from 4,000 to 8,000 RPM. 8)

When going to the pertronix don't you also need to remove the resister wire just like when using a dura spark.
Just what I was thinking let me know if I'm wrong. :?

Yes, I used a male bullet connector into the female connector right close to the ignition switch out to the coil to bypass the resistive wire.

Yeah, that resistor wire helps a bunch when you replace it with a non resistance one. You get the full capability of the system.
