C6 conversion
I have a 4x4 C6 for a F100 and I want to use it in a 2wdr P/U. What exactly do I have to replace? Housing and output shart, of caurse, but what else? How much work is involved? I've never worked on an automatic transmissions before.

Re: C6 conversion
i've never done that interchange or swap. but i have heard that is all that needs changing. when you get the shaft and tailhousing from another transmission it might be easier to just put the second transmission in instead of fooling with tearing down two transmission to use the 4wd trans.

Re: C6 conversion
Problem is finding a good used one in Sweden under $1000-1500. I can pick up a used not working 460 trans for $175 and use some of the parts but it will probaly be to much for me to handle.fordman wrote:i've never done that interchange or swap. but i have heard that is all that needs changing. when you get the shaft and tailhousing from another transmission it might be easier to just put the second transmission in instead of fooling with tearing down two transmission to use the 4wd trans.

Re: C6 conversion
It is possible that the bolt on tailshaft from a long bed's transmission would work.
Whats the 4 wheel drive set up look like?

I'm not sure, It's been a while since I looked at it but I've heard that there are both long and short tail housings for the C6. Would the short work without changing the output shaft?DuckRyder wrote:It is possible that the bolt on tailshaft from a long bed's transmission would work.

Re: C6 conversion
The 4x4 tail housing is about 5 11/16" long and the outputshaft extends another 1 3/8 after the housing. Anyone knows if there is a short tail ousing that will bolt right on?

Re: C6 conversion
There are no Rwd tail housings that will fit a 4x4 C6 which is married to the transfer case.

Re: C6 conversion
Are there three different outputshaft lengths then, normal C6, short tail housing and 4x4? When You say "married", what do You mean? I have "three" parts, C6 housing, tail housing and transfercase and they all bolt together.

Re: C6 conversion
More than 3 different lengths.
Married means the transfer case bolts to an adapter that bolts to the transmission, which is what you have. Divorced means there is a jackshaft between the transmission and the transfer case.
Two different lengths of married 4x4s, yours and one 3" longer.
Four different lengths of Rwd, short with tail about 7" long, next at about 14" long, next at about 17" long, and last at about 18" long.
Divorced 4x4 uses the same transmission as the shortest Rwd.
More info here.
