Re: Daully rear end
That was originally a single rear wheel as the front is not set up for the dually wheels… Just find you a bump F-250 rear axle and put under it and then it will be back to original configuration and you can get the bigger tires for it.

Re: Daully rear end
looks to me like he just needs two more straight wheels for the back. You could pull the other side front, put it on the back and check the track front to rear (eyeball method)

Wow, thats a good looking old truck. I would have to put a flatbed on it. Something like a Western Hauler, or on of the old Classy Chassis flatbeds.
Good luck!!
Good luck!!

Re: Daully rear end
if you try and modify the bed you will end up cutting a hugh hole in to the inside of the bed beacause the wheel well is a single piece of metal. it's not double walled. its a single wall so the bed wheel well and part of the bed will have a hole in it. one other way to get by is to take off the inner wheel for now. and just run the outer wheel on the back. or put a different bed on it of some sort.

I'll bet it has the original rear axle on it too. I don't think the DRW axle is any shorter than the SRW. Don't all 67-72 trucks have a 34" wide frame? The only reason the duals stick in and out is the offset of the dually wheels. The SRW wheels will end up in about the center of where your duals are now. The newer trucks have 3 different width rear axles. Shortest is chassis cab DRW (they still have a 34" frame) , next is SRW pickup (pickups have a slightly wider frame), and the widest is DRW pickup (because of the wheel well issue). As Ranchero50 said, try putting one of those front wheels on the back, and eyeball it. While you have those rears off, check and see if those are one piece or split rims, and if they are the coined or the flat ones. If they are one piece, coined, and 16", and you don't want them, I would consider a roadtrip. I have 4 16" regular rims I would trade. They are from the 90s but are the same 8 bolt pattern that your truck uses.
Is that an F250 or 350?

Its an f250. Will the rims off a 90's or 00's fit the old trucks. whats the different between split rims and not split?

Re: Daully rear end
i think you can use wheels up to 97 or 98 on that truck. after that they went to metric and have to be drilled out to fit on the older bolt patterns. a split rim is a rim the has a removeable ring around the outer hub to remove the tire with. a non split wheel is just like any car or truck wheel made now days. the tire has to be kind of streched over the rim to mount the tire. stay away from 16.5 and split rims. because the 16.5 tires are expensive and or getting harder to get. and the split rims can get worn and dangerous over the years.

Yeah, toss the splits in the ditch & find you something different. Not only is it hard to find a shop that will work on them, they have been known to take your head off if they blow up.
Here is a pic of a split ring/rim type wheel:

Re: Daully rear end
I think it might be hard to find 15" 8 lug wheels. 8 lug wheels from up to '97 will work. There are no '98 3/4 or 1 ton Ford trucks. The '99s came out a little early.
Are the rears on that truck 16 or 16.5?
The F250s came with Dana 60 axles (somebody correct me if need be), and the dually axle would be a Dana 70. There should be a "60" or a "70" cast on the axle housing. Another thing to check for is the dually wheels have a 9th hole in them that is about 1/4" or 5/16". On a dually hub there is a pin that goes through those holes on both rear wheels to index them correctly. If your hub doesn't have them, it most likely is not a dually rear.
Here's a 16" split ring, dually wheel. Mounted on the front of my truck. Note the 9th hole.

Re: Daully rear end
The front rims are 16.5 ant the rear rims are 16. There is a 9th hole but there is NO pin. So this means its not a dually rear end. Should there be 2 sets of leaf springs on the rear? It looks factory.

Re: Daully rear end
The second set of springs are helper springs. They may or may not be factory. It would depend on the GVW of the truck.
Do they look something like this?
My F350 did not have them. I added a set from a mid '80s F350. They are very easy to add. All the holes are in the frame for the brackets. All you need are longer U bolts.
Do the rear wheels have the split rings? They are on the inside.

Re: Daully rear end
That looks like what I got. My truck has a GVWR of 7500 pounds. It also has a wheel base of 149 in. Is that normal for a crew cab? I appreciate all the info you'll have give me. I'll be a regular nor that I have my crew. By the way the rear rims are 16 inch split rims . A friend of mine said he has a set if 16in rims and tires that he'll give me so hopefully that will work!
