New Carpet

Post by Calvin Gunter »

I took my new carpet out of the box today and it looks a little long in the rear. For those of you who have disassembled an all original truck or have already installed new carpet already, does the carpet go under the gas tank? I haven't started this project yet but just out of the box and it looks a little long.Maybe I'm jumping the gun but I would just like to know what all I'm up against before I start.TIA,Calvin

i have heard of this before. it doesn't go under the tank. there is suppose to be a finihs strip on the back of the carpet. the other guy said he was going to cut his off to make it fit. and maybe use screws and washers to hold it down in the back. i don't know what i would do if it were me. i would just lay it in there and see what you think before making any plans.

I woud make it go under the tank! I cut mine off cuz I did not want to take the Tank out.

I did not use any thing to hold mine down in the back. Just Cut it a lil longer and push it under the tank and by the time you get the seat Belts installd there holding it down.

I had the same situation. I cut the carpet and used it to cover the firewall. It looked really good. I would not putthe carpet under or behind the tank. One reason is that I don't think it would fit. I used adhesive spray to hold everything down, not bolts. Your seat bolts will help too.

Where are you guys ordering the carpet from...LMC?

I want to be sure to get the same one because I want to cover the firewall as well. Thanks!

I bought mine from Auto Custom Carpet(ACC) several years ago. They were at the Charlotte AutoFair and I ordered it there.I'm just now installing it so I'm not an authority yet.I have some scale on the floorboards I'm dealing with at the moment so it will be a few days before I can give you my opinion.I'll post back here in few days.
