Hello all,

I am an fe enthusiast, but I haven't played around with one in a couple of years. I was doing some fe research today and came upon a quote (wiki) about some dude named "Chuy" in Agua Calientes, Mexico who made a 450 HP 352 back in 1965-66. Of course this cite was not supported and there is no mechanical breakdown for the engine. I am wondering the truthfulness in this citation. 450 hp out of a 352 with 1966ish technology? For a truck to haul workers in the back (see wiki citation)? Long story short...I want to know how to do this!!! I think it would be great in my '67 F100 CS. Let me know what you guys think.

Sure, put a 4-71 blower on it and run 110 octane fuel. Detroit blowers were 30 year old technology in the 60's.

Naturally aspirated with pump gas you cannot make 450 HP with a 352 and use it to haul anything in a pickup.

8) 8) 8) 427 SOHC marine application were made in that vintage, and they were 625hp with 1 4barrel carb. :lol:

352 is a completely different beast, but hey at least the block was close :P

450 hp from a 352 ? no way man. build yourself a 410 torque monster. :thup:

I agree, Jim Dove just made 480 hp in a 352 for Engine Masters competition. However, it ran high riser heads, a big cam, and wouldnt have the low end torque to work every day. It would be a drag motor.

I think 450 is doable without to much effort. I just ran this on my Comp cams software and I made 410HP with a NON roller hydraulic cam. I selected 660 cfm carb-- 1.80 intake valve--1.50 exhaust valve-- a dual plane intake-- headers-- and ported and polished heads with 10 to 1 compression on pump gas. Nothing wild. This was set up fot a 4x4 truck at 4500 lbs and a daily driver. The 410 hp is at 5500 RPM and torque is 442ftlbs at 4000RPM
Try this link. It is a little fuzzy, but if you mag it to 150% I think you can read it. I couldnt get the info to transfer directly, so I scanned it and sent it to Picasa. :)

Unfortunately a desktop dyno is fantasy not reality, the guys who have been building them for decades will tell you it is tough. 450 HP from a 390 is doable but is near the limit of "reasonably easy" and yet the desktop dyno's say 500 is easy. The reality is each engine design is a bit different and the desktop dyno is a compromise. The FE's are capable of power but not as simply as the desktop dyno makes it seem. To make 450 from a 352 you will need great heads, cam and intake as well as compression carb and ignition. Really, the only parts of a 352 you can use as is are the crank and block, all other major components will need to be aftermarket or heavily modified originals. As noted above, Jim Dove only got 480hp out of a seriously modified race engine. The heads cost more than most of us pay for out trucks even before they were modified! LOL Hawkrod

I am a small block guy, and I keep forgetting the Fe is a different animal. :? Dino.....................? No it cant be! Say it isn't so! :lol: :lol: :lol: When we want HP from a small block, we just spin it a little more and pray we get to do it again :doh: :lol:
