429 oil pan modification?

Finally got a chance to tear down my 429 and see what my oil press problem was, (oil Pump has grooves in the housing) so i bought a high volume melling oil pump that came with the pickup, and on the o'reilly webpage, it states minor oil pan modifications may be required. Has anyone used a stock oil pan, rear sump, and the melling high volume oil pump, and did you have to do any mods to the pan? have not test fitted the pump to the motor since i just got the pump and dont go to my shop till the weekends. Thanks for the help in advance....

Why go with the HV pump? The stock oil pump is plenty good to 6000 RPM in a 429/460. The HV just costs more and sucks power.

i am planning on making a stroker motor out of this engine in the future, so it would be one less thing to buy when it comes time to throw down the money for the stroker kit. i know that it cost more now but when i start getting parts for making it a bigger motor it will not seem as much then....

Good point. I ran across that years ago and now always measure pan and pick-up clearance prior to assembly. HV pump is not a bad chioce. There's a guy named Paul Kane from the 460ford.com website that sells modified custom oil pumps. He has also done extensive research on block modifications for the 429/460's. There are instructions on his website on improving the oiling system on the 385 series engines, check it out under the "Performance Block Prep" link...

thats a good link, i am going to just have to measure the pan and the pump the way it shows on that page, so thanks for the help, i dont think that i am going to have a problem with the depth since the pan i have is off a 460 that came from a truck. but i am going to measure for sure.... thanks guys....
