oil change
I rember my dad use to run deisel thru the engine when he changed the oil in the 1970's vehicles, he would drain the oil dump a few gallons of deisel in where the oil should go start up the car and let it run for a few minutes and then drain it out replace the oil filter then fill it up with oil......says it cleans out all the gunk......there was never a ruined engine either, all the cars he did this too ran strong. would anyone suggest do this to our trucks, I personally have a 390. have 14 days off from work so i plan to do some of the stuff i have not had the time to do like brakes and coolant and headlight alignment.

Re: oil change
An engine that's full of crud will run best if the crud stays where it is. Loosen up the crud and it will float around blocking things up.
Change oil more often and use good oil if you want to keep an engine clean. Modern oil is full of detergents.

Re: oil change
I put ATF 1qt in and that cleans them up. If I worry about crud coming off I get them flushed.

Re: oil change
ATF or Diesel fuel is what I use. Just 1qrt is all you need. JMHO

Re: oil change
at first that sounds like a good idea. but what about the trapped fuel in the oil pump now. after the flush? maybe it all drains out i dont know. i wouldn't want to thin out my oil. i also wouldn't want it to get sludged up. like was already posted modern oils o have detergents in them to help keep the motor clean.

Re: oil change
if you have a lot of funk in the motor, stay away from "cleaning the motor" oll that crap has to go somewhere...Also stay away from any "Engine Flush". Real caustic, and provides NO lubrication to any of the bearings in the motor. As stated, ATF works wonders. I add about a quart 100 mi or so before an oil change. Keeps 'em nice & clean
As a metter of fact, i AM trying to keep up with the Jones'
