Dash pad....necessary?

Post by Fordfool »

Hey guys, I have been at the shop all morning and still disassembling! I was wondering if anyone ever had the thoughts I am having. I am seriously considering using the metal support as the dash without the pad. I believe I can fill the holes well enough to make it look great and being an ex heating and cooling guy, I believe I can make the vent areas look good. Besides, I am gonna add a couple more defrost holes east and west for better defrosting as well as piping some heat to the rear cab. That is another story hovever. Anyone ever considered or done this? I personally love the "lowered" look it has without the pad.

I love the look of the metal dash and have run it on a couple trucks. For vents the metal pieces that come out of the dash pad can be cleaned up, painted and screwed into the recesses for them in the metal dash.
If you fill the holes and paint it up nice it looks like it was built that way.

I just put a black pad on mine but I had the unmondified metal for the last several years. Personally, I think the metal looks fine without modification. Here's a photo of mine before I put on the pad and one of pad I removed.

I think it would look good with some billet grills made to cover the defrost ducts or maybe a single piece to cover the entire defrost ducts/speaker area. All this without having to make any holes or alterations for attaching them, of course. How about it custom? :D :D
