You may still have open vacuum where you removed the choke housing too.

An excellent point, Holleys at least have an internal vacumme pull off, Autolites are similar?

I put that bracket on there like that for two reasons, one so it covers the vacuum hole with a gasket, two so I can put a leaver on it for maniacal advantage. so I am not done with it yet, I am just having a cable set back so I have it hooked up to hold the choke stiff for now till I can proceed because I need a free cable to make the leaver not a bound cable

I have my doubts if a stock one is long enough. When you have to bend around and come in the front door like that it will take a longer one.

I've dealt with this scenerio a couple of times...

If you wanna go from an auto choke to a manual and have it work right, you have to have the correct parts for the application.
Because these carbs were used for several years in different applications with various modifications you have to have the pieces for the right application.
The stock choke cable from an F-500 and up is about 2/3 the length of one for our pickups, 'cause it goes straight thru the firewall to the carb.. I was going to replace tthe one on my bus Olde Skool with one from a a pickup so I know that by experience.
I ran into a problem when trying to fix the choke as well...
I bought the same kind of carb... manual choke and everything yet it wouldn't work 'cause it was from another application.
I had to disassemble both carbs and swap the center rod on the choke butterfly over to the bus carb, then the rest of the linkage from the parts carb would work on the bus carb...
The butterfly rod was just slightly differrent as was the linkage rod...
after getting everything swapped over it worked perfect.
I paid $10.00 for the parts carb at a local yard and thought I was getting ripped off...
but when Olde Skool fired right up, I forgot all about the $10.00...

I put one on my 71 about 3 weeks back. Mine all most looks the same! I did not run my wire behind the carb like that. I ran mine over the distributor cap and from there is a straight shot to the pull knob, So its a nice curve.

Yours has a bunch of curves so it makes it harder to pull the knob. The Straighter the better.
Mine was a auto choke! I just went down to bumper to bumper and got the kit, So I still have the round thing for the auto choke its just manual now. It was 12.99.

I was going to mount the choke knob beside the cs aux fuel tank gage switch by the ignition switch, so that hole was a straight shot to the carb but when I turn it any it would bind, so I made it squirrelly so it had no real turns witch I do not like. it would always bind the cable when I get the cable near the carb because I would always have to make a turn around something. I spent 3 hours trying to get the cable to there, but past that mass of hoses I can't be as gentle no more to the carb

Most of us who are trying to guide you in a different direction have already been to the movie and know how it turns out. And you yourself spent 3 hours trying to get a choke cable to do things they can't do. It's like pulling wire through conduit, any electrician will tell you it can only take so many bends and still pull.

I was just trying to make a junk cable work and I had to have all those soft bends to get there and work. I will try to route it around the front if it is not to short or drill a hole in the firewall where it wonts to go straight. to make this choke cable work I would have to install a larger gage core wire in it to give it rigidity so it won't bind as easy. but thanks I am just hard head wont to make my own braked
