Installing automatic choke in manual choke truck

Post by old_mare »

I've been meaning to ask a question about this anyway...

In my bump, the engine has been swapped out. Mine came with the Autolite 2bbl, manual choke. The carb that is on it now is a Motorcraft 2bbl, electric choke. How can I get that fixed? My choke plate is wired open, making cold starts a total PITA. Should I check at junkyards or is there somewhere you can buy replacement parts? From the pictures of the rebuild kits, I don't see anything pertaining to those in any of the catalogs I've looked in. I plan on rebuilding the carb anyway, but I'd like to fix that stinkin choke.

Hey Old_Mare...

Are you wanting switch it to manual choke or fix the auto choke on it???
It should be pretty easy to swap the choke mechanism from your old carb...
There should only be 3 screws holding the choke mechanism on.
You may also have to swap the butterfly plate rod to match the choke linkage.
There are 2 screws in it. remove those, and the butterfly plate will slide out then the center rod will slide out the side...
If yer wanting to fix the auto choke... I'm not sure if they can be rebuilt or not. You might have to pull one from a parts carb.
I had to buy a parts carb to fix the manual choke on my bus... but it was a pretty easy fix.

if you still have the old manaul choke carb you could put it back on the new engine. or you could do what so other guy did to a carb i have and hook the choke cable straight to the outer auto choke housing. i cant explain how it was done but this guy did it.
