ANOTHER good afternoon in the shop! [LG PICS]
Actually got a lot done today. Felt good to spend the day just getting my hands dirty for the first time in about a month. Not only did I get the firewall coated with POR-15 and painted, but I was able to get started on mocking up the front sheetmetal. I just posted another project update page at http://www.fordification.com/my67-p47.htm with additional pics.
Actually starting to look more like a truck again, isn't it?

Man Keith, your truck is really starting to come together. I remember when we were at about the same stage. Which is pathetic for me and my dad because we dont have the rust issues you had with finding a decent cab. Looks good

Re: re: ANOTHER good afternoon in the shop! [LG PICS]
To be honest with you, I haven't really nailed down the color yet. When I first started this project I was planning on going with a semi-flat black and having the truck almost completely de-chromed. However, after seeing a few trucks painted that way I'm not entirely sure I want to go that route now. If I decide against it, it'll probably be Rangoon Red, just like the pic in my sig. If I go with the red, I'll be installing an aluminum grille and side trim.customcrewcab wrote:so what color are you going to paint this truck, and what motor and tranny?
As for the drivetrain, I'll be using a 390/C6 combo...mostly stock, since it'll be a daily driver. However, I'll install headers and dual exhaust and an Edelbrock carb on the stock intake (unless I opt for a Performer RPM).

Keith
That is looking good. I can relate to that repair Are you going to assemble the whole front before dropping in the engine? or is that strickly for alignment purposes. I'm watching your every move

Yeah Mark, I just saw your update too....looks like we're on about the same chapter of our truck's resurrections! Yours is looking good as well!4x4x4crewcab wrote:...That is looking good. Tentatively the plan is to assemble all the front-end sheetmetal to get everything lined up and tightened down. Then I'll probably remove the radiator support to allow me access to install the engine/tranny combo, so I won't have to raise the boom so high to clear things and risk damaging my bee-yew-tee-full paint job.

re: ANOTHER good afternoon in the shop! [LG PICS]
Well, I spent the day in the shop, but didn't have the camera nor did I really get enough done to put together an update page anyway, so I'll just post my progress here.
I started out rounding up all the fender bolts and got them poked into a cardboard box with the heads sticking up, and then sandblasted and painted them. I also sandblasted and painted the radiator support shims in case I'd need them when I start aligning stuff.
I then got started getting the front fenders cleaned up. I spent almost 2 hours cleaning the rubbery undercoating off one fender before noticing that it had a rust hole in the typical area behind the wheelwell. So I tossed that one aside and grabbed another that was from the 27,000-mile '67 CS I recently parted out. The fender was rustfree but had a few dings in it, so I spent a little time getting them tapped out. They're almost perfectly smooth now, so it'll just take a very thin coat of filler to make it totally straight.
I then got the backside of both front fenders cleaned up with the angle grinder, alternating between the composite stripper wheel and a wire wheel attachment. When I'd gotton about as far as I could go with the grinder, I got started sandblasting the back. Got one fender about 80% done before having to come home for the night.
I'm not sure when my next day in the shop will be, but I should be able to finish cleaning up the backside of both front fenders and get them painted with POR-15....and then the front-end assembly will commence.

If anybody has a picture of a nicely painted rangoon red I would like to see a pic because that is the factory color of my truck and I am considering on using that color when I get there
