well I've searched and found out that I have to pull the suspension crossmember
to get the trans out of the 71 f-100.
Got the four bolts out(what fun)smacking it to the rear does not give it enough room to come out.
The trans crossmember has been relocated three or four inches towards the front, which stops it just as it clears the radius arm brackets. After I support the trans and get the other crossmember out of the way will the forward c-member come out?
another c4 removal question

for the benefit of those searching in the future-yes pushing the two crossmembers back
as far as they'll go will give you enough room to get a c4 out.Not gracefully but by tipping the bellhousing
down onto some little scraps of wood and then fidgeting the tailhousing to one side it will clear.
still can't give those crossmembers the hosing they need

Re: another c4 removal question
IMO the c4 is junk i had one in a 77 ranchero gt with a 351 windsor with 250 ratio gears in the rear. This was how my dad ordered it from the dealer. It was rebuilt 2 times before it got to 150,000 so the third time it went i trashed it and got me a old cast iron body fmx trans. I never had any problems ever again.

Re: another c4 removal question
i have had my c6 out once before to replace the front seal. i did not have to remove the front crossmember to do this. i tilted the rear of the trans up toward the floor in order to sldie the bottom of the bellhousing backward around the crossmember. that was back in the early 80's that i did this.
