Piston question

Post by willowbilly3 »

I recently acquired a bunch of 300-6 stuff. Amongst it is the stuff to rebuild one. The guy was using 390 pistons, which I understand will work. What I have is Badger pistons # P173-std which I know are 4.050 390. Since the Badger site is under construction I was wondering if anyone had info on Badger pistons in particular (never used them myself) and if this part number is 2 bbl or 4 bbl, or deck height.

Try this one. Maybee you can cross it over with their #'s.

I didn't find a cross over but thanks for the link, lots of good info there. One thing I don't quite have my head wrapped around is that both the 390 and the 300 they say the pin is offset. Is that offset on the same axis as the pin hole or perpendicular to it? I seem to remember the info on Fordsix about using the 390 pistons said to get all (left or right?) from the same side.

I have also heard of 352 FE pistons, and 351W pistons too. Personally I got Ross Forged pistons made to my specs and they yield 9.5:1CR with a 300 head.
1968 F100 Took the running 390 out, and installed a Built 300 with AOD.

There is a good read on that at Fordsix. The 352 pistons have a taller deck height and need to have the tops milled.
I already have the 390 flat tops and I am planning a budget build. I actually did some trading and got the pistons, rings, bearings, chrome valve cover,268H cam, complete efi engine, bell housing and flywheel, basically for free. Hopefully the std bearings will work but at this point it is machine work and gaskets. Oh, and I have an offy dp and a 390 holley but my plan is to use propane through the efi intake.
