Which Dizzy?

Post by 71PA_Highboy »

I need to tune up the OB, and I have a pertronix and a duraspark assy...

Which one should I use?

TIA,

Eric

Pertronix is easier and cleaner to put in, duraspark is tougher.

I think I will probably go pertronix... for only 1 reason...

I won't have to worry about pulling the dizzy and dropping the oil pump shaft into the pan...

Thanks Dustin.

Eric

Definitely agree with Greg. The first pertronix fry if you look at them funny. I've had really bad luck with them.

Yeppers... and if you do fry the module, try finding one in Resume Speed Iowa.....ain't gonna happen.

I'd stick with the Duraspark unit.

OK,

"I have a pertronix and a duraspark assy..."

I can't afford to BUY anything, so a Pertronix 2 isn't part of the equation.

Still going pertronix... still looking for input on why the risk of dropping the pump shaft makes the DuraSpark a better choice... and OB never gets more than 100 miles from home.. and most NAPA's around here carry pertronix...

Sounds like you've had some bad luck with pump shafts in the past! Is the clip that holds the shaft in missing on your engine?

Don't know it is is there or not, but I have dropped a couple in the past... and this engine looks close enough to original assy (though it isn't the original engine) that I am not really looking forward to the chance...

Will probably put a rebuilt 390 in the OB Next year...

TIA,

eric
