The pads on the frame that the overload springs land on are the same on Ford trucks from '97 (F250/350) back thru '67 for sure and possibly further. My '70 has an overload setup from an '80s F350. The F350 springs are the same length and width for those years too.

So what holds them in place? The 79 springs are 3" wide where as the 67 are 2 1/4" wide. Wouldn't it move around? IF they will work on the 79 springs I will take them off. What all do I need? The top single spring and the block under it and the stops that are bolted to the frame?

You have an F250. I only really know about F350s. I haven't compared the other trucks. I know that my '96 F250 had the same pads on the frame, but not the same springs as the F350. The F350 seems to be much different from the others and seems to have changed much less over the years.

Well I got the 67 parts on the 79. Thats as far as i will go until I need it road worthy. At that time I will put new brake shoes, wheel cylinders and have the drums turned. I am glad I did this little swap. I knew the 79 drums were rusted pretty bad. What I didnt know was how bad they were inside. Now they are good to go.
Thanks for all the help guys. I still need to get the overloads off.
Eric if I cant use them I will let you know.

The rear frame section and the rear springs are EXACTLY the same for F-250 4x4's from 67-77.5 and F-350 2wd's single wheel or dually for the same time period.
Ford switched everything, including F-350's over to 3" wide rear springs in the late 70's.

I had an '86 F350 DRW at my house last year. The rear springs were the same width and length as those on my '70 DRW. In fact the frame looked about the same too.averagef250 wrote:The rear frame section and the rear springs are EXACTLY the same for F-250 4x4's from 67-77.5 and F-350 2wd's single wheel or dually for the same time period.
