Power steering

Post by Bob 68 »

I have a chance to get a complete power steering setup from a 68 f250 2wd including column. My question is will that work in my 67 F350 or do I need to get one from a F350?

Here is some reading. http://www.fordification.com/powersteering.htm

I believe the gears are the same in configuration as far as F250 - F350.

I took a steering box and pitman arm out of what I believe was a 67 according to casting numbers on I beams and put it into a 70 f150 with no problems.

:hj: I saw a '71 F350 with power steering in the salvage yard today, but the column was already gone. Would an F250 or F350 PS box work in a '69 F100? I know I need the column too. I won't get that one since the column is already gone, but it would be good to know that things will work in case I find another PS F350. Thanks!

Yes, same used for F100 - F350  only difference is if it is a Bendix or Saginaw for the column length needed with it.

So as long as you get the column AND box out of the same truck, then there shouldn't be a problem with having the column and box mismatched, right? That's why I don't want to bother with getting just the box out of that F350. With my luck, I'll never find the right column to mate to it. It's going to be hard enough to find a factory floor shift PS column (smoothie). Maybe I can get lucky and find a floor shift truck with the complete PS setup still intact. Just my luck, that F350 had the column I needed, but someone beat me to it.

Check the info that Keith has on the PS setups that Heep posted above... But for the most part yes... However the Saginaw box is a bit easier to find as they were used in the dentsides and they are the ones that you would need to get the shorter column to go with it... The Bendix should work (for the most part) with the manual column you have... :2cents:
