Canada here!! With some pics.

Post by stangconv »

Hey everyone!! I am from Saskatchewan Canada. I got a '68 (I think) F-100 off my aunty. It used to be my Uncles but he passed away some time ago. My moms cousin (the son of said uncle) thought it was a 64, and the registration in the glovebox said 1965. However on the slick60 website they figured it was a 68.

So anyways this truck has been sitting in the bush for sometime now, and I thought it would make a good candidate for a full on restore.

Here is the sport it has been sitting since 1980.

So I guess I have some questions... Is there anyplace here (or anywhere) that is a good read before starting a major project like this? I have pretty much done most repairs that would need to be done before on other vehicles, but never all at once.

I figure with some careful planning, and a thorough plan I can minimize some of those overwhelming feelings that are sure to come when you have a truck stripped right down to nothing...

I kind of want a picture of what the final project should look like to hang on the wall and be inspiration to me. (Like what Chip Foose draws at the begining of Overhaulin) Where does a guy go for something like that???

Anyways, thanks in advance and this site has been great already!!! Lots to read here!!! :fr:

Welcome from North Carolina. As far as having a plan of attack, its the best thing to do. Each person is more adept at certain work than others, so its hard to just have a stamped out plan. Best advice I can give is know what you want from the start and don't change it half way through. Good luck.

For some members that draw bumps, check out this thread. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &sk=t&sd=a
For a plan of attack on your project check out the Project Update pages to see what/how others have done.
Making a plan before you start is a good idea but it will always end up getting tweaked as you go, but knowing what you want in the end is the best

Hey from Virginia. Definately not older than 67. Check out Keith's page to determine your year. Here is the link: http://www.fordification.com/67-72ID.htm

This will give you a good idea. Also, comparison of the VIN off the data plate on the Driver's door will tell you. Look at Keith's data plate decoders for that. Each year has a range of numbers. Here is a link to it: http://www.fordification.com/VIN.htm

The links at the bottom will break down each specific year and give you the number range.

Thanks Guys!

Anyone got any good book/website recomendations for starting out to do a frame off restoration? I like doing research before jumping in and going at it.

I am not really looking for specific how to books, (I already know how to do most of the work, brakes, engine work, interior work, wiring, suspention) but more of a what order to do the work in, like body work before interior? Engine before paint?

Also I am not very experienced at body work but I would love to give it a try... Any good reads on this subject?

Thanks guys.

Edit: Oh yeah I found someone to draw up a picture of my truck... I will show you in a couple weeks when finished!

Thanks... Yeah, I havent had much time to even think about the truck lately... Its been sitting out in the yard since I got it. But now have been wanting to strip it out.

I took some more pics with my cell phone, but it died when I got to work... so cant put them up until tomorrow.

Hey I saw your truck in "Classic Trucks" Magazine, got me back on the site, and interested in starting my project again.
