really rusty calipers/drums.

Post by Bonnie_72_F100 »

I can't bleed my stupid brakes because the bleeding bolt (at least on the rear pass side, where I want to start) is really rusted and it just strips away with the slightest tug.

I'm guessing for this I'd need to replace the rusty drums/calipers and everything... right? :? :o

Sigh... I really need to find one of these things @ a local junkyard for parts. Anyone know any good junkyards in the western Maryland area?!?

Thanks,

So,

Do you have a front or rear disc conversion, because if not there are no calipers or rotors.

The rear bleeder threads into the wheel cylinder, they are relatively inexpensive, so if the bleeder is that rusty I would probably just replace the wheel cylinder(s).

If it is still serviceable you might try soaking all the bleeders with PB Blaster or Kroil or some other similar penetrating lubricant every day for about a week.

Just replace the wheel cylinders.. they run around $10.00 each here. And if you do one, do the other side as a pair.

From memory they're pretty easy, IMO the worst part is taking the drum brakes apart
