Possible 360 - 460 swap - tranny compatible?

Post by Guardsman »

I may have the opportunity to get a truck with a 460 mated to an auto tranny. My truck currently has a 360 mated to an NP435 (72 F-100 4x4).

Would the 460 bolt up to my NP435, or would I have to change the bellhousing, tranny, etc.?

If it will bolt right up, I'll get it, but if it would require changes to the tranny, I'm not going to.

Thanks,

John

The FE (360) and LIMA (460) bellhousing bolt pattern is NOT the same. So at a minimum you have to change the bell. I'll let some of the manual experts pipe in as to input shaft , clutches and so forth...

You can use the 360 flywheel, but you'll definitely need a different bellhousing. And just an FYI, they're not exactly rare, but not really easy to find either.
