where do the belts so...pic inside ... 390 factory ac and ps

Post by dablack00 »

Here is a pic of a 390 that I parted out from a 72 camper special. I still have the AC and all the brackets, but I don't know where the belts so. I'm selling the system to another board member and I want to make sure he is getting all the right parts to put AC on his 390 (that already has PS).

Which tensioner or idler pulley goes with what? I should have taken a side shot so I could see how it all lined up.

thanks

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

I appreciate the pictures, but I don't think that is factory AC since it mounts differently than mine. Also, the AC brackets with PS are different than those without PS, I will need pictures of a FE engine with both AC and PS (factory installed).

You are correct what you have is factory AC and the belts are specific to that application. The Front groove on the crank runs the AC pump. The belt runs around the idler on the alternator bracket and the idler below the AC pump. The middle groove on the crank and the front groove on the water pump run the PS pump. The rear groove on the crank and water pump run the alternator which uses single belt (if you have a dual pulley on the alternator it is the rear one). BTW, dang you guys have it tough wherever you are, out here in the west I have never seen such a rsuty mess! Hawkrod

Hawkrod,

Thanks for the responce. So I need to give the buyer my alt bracket (with idler pulley), and the AC bracket w/ idler pulley. Cool.

The picture is with the flash and made it look really bad. That engine only had 24k miles on it and most of the parts have already been sandblasted. They turned out perfect with zero pitting. They were just covered with surface rust since they had not moved since 1974 or 75.

Yes, alternator brackets are different with AC as is the PS pump pulley and both water pump and crank pulleys. Hawkrod

flyboy,

That is pretty close, but not the same as mine. If you look at my pic at the top, I have two idler pulleys.

Looks like I'm just going to have to send my buyer everything. AC bracket, alt bracket, crank pulley, water pump pulley, both idlers, everything.

thanks
