360 c6 internals different from 429 c6?

Post by 1971ford »

we have a 429 engine that has a c6 attached to it that feels uhappy. we also have a c6 thats attached to a 360 that works great which we can use.

can we swap the c6 (the one that was connected to a 360) guts into the other c6's internals (the c6 that was attached to a 429)? :?

are the 429 c6's internals more beefy or different spline or anything.

thanks :)

both the same
Why go thru the trouble of swapping to put used parts in when you can get a rebuild kit for $129?? http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/N ... tch+Plates

Looks a LOT worse than it is. If you take your time and keep your work area clean and orginized, you will be fine.

I rebuilt my first trans when I was about 18. It was a C6. I just laid everything out in order and followed the manual. I've rebuilt a ton of transmissions since. I don't even use the manuals anymore (except for torque specs or clearance specs). The best way to learn is to tear into one. (I'm Ford trained now, but I wasn't at the time of my first teardown). Also, if you've got a digital camera or video cam, you may want to take pics or vid to help you along.

dad agreed with rebuilding the tranny instead.
so thats what were doing.

does the torque converter out of the 360's c6 work fine in the 429's c6? since we know the 360's c6's torque converter is good we might as well swap that in the 429's c6 while were down there. if its interchangeable.
