I just bought a '67 f100 SWB with a four speed. The hump in the floor is larger than normal with a cover that unbolts. I mean compared to 3 speed column shift trucks. How can I tell whether it is a np-435 or the t-18? It doesn't go into 2nd gear. I heard something about a shift fork could be bent but I don't know what that means. The previous owner thinks the top cover on the transmission might be removed without even taking the transmission out of the truck to repair it.
I should be picking up the truck tomorrow. I have never driven one of these before. I am used to the three speed transmissions.

ok if you take the transmission hump cover off and look at the transmission if the top case is aluminum and the power take off port is on the right side of the case you have a np-435 and if its a cast iron top its a t-18.
Btw which way is reverse?? is it away and up or away and down.
and yes the top cover can be removed the forks will come up with the top cover at least on the np-435...just make sure to leave it in nuetral...some one else can tell you better than i
some links that will help

you can kinda see what a np-435 looks like mine is pretty dirty

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

Reverse was over to the right and down or to the rear of the truck. I could see top of the transmission a little bit because the cover with the boot attached was unbolted. I think it may have been aluminum but I am not sure.
