check that and check the modulator valve. (Pass side rear of trans)

be sure the vacume line is hooked up.
Some C-6's that valve is screw in, others are push in. If the 71 is the same swap it. could be your problem.
How's the fluid smell??
If it comes down to it, you'd be better off having that one rebuilt rather than putting a used one in. At least youd know what you have. :2cents:

C6's aren't difficult to rebuild. You just need a couple of specialty tools.

here's the dealio folks.

tranny fluid is beyond low. it barely made it to the dipstick. (and yes, i cycled through the gears 4000 times and let the engine warm up. i tested in park while engine running).
the fluid that was on the dipstick didnt smell like anything.

i couldnt get to the kickdown to check it out.

the nodulator doodad is there and has a line coming out of it. didnt trace the line.

i'll buy tranny fluid tomorrow and top her off. and then my dad and i can cruise the mobile around and check out the gear action.

now what :D

Low tranny fluid will cause the symptoms you described.
You may have solved the problem.

update:

i put a quart of tranny fluid in it and then we drove it around. my dad says the tranny feels weird and its not kicking down correctly, but he is used to my 71 which has a kickdown lever.... i couldnt find it on this one earlier so i think it doesnt have one and its kicking down by itself like it normally should.

so my dad thinks its not working right but i think it is. hmmmm

If It doesn't have a kick down lever then it won't kick down normally. Find a kick down lever.
