429 for 360 swap, will tranny work?

Post by 1971fordsdad »

Ryan has a couple of threads, general discussion and engine, about his new 429 engine score. A couple of guys have touched on the subject of whether or not it will bolt up to his trans in his '71. The '71 has a 360 bolted to a c-6. The donor vehicle is a '69 F250 with a 429 and a c-6. Will the 429 bolt up to the trans in the '71 or not? I hope so because the trans in the donor truck appears to be slipping. If I do have to swap out both, will the donor 429/c-6 combo bolt into the '71?

360 trans will not bolt up to a 460 and vice-versa.
The 429/C6 combo will bolt into the 71 but you'll have to use the engine perches out of the truck that currently has the 429 in it.

yeah there was something about the bellhousing... like we can take the engine/flywheel/bellhousing and swap it into the 71 and bolt it all up. this right?

were goign to have to find perches, the ones in the 69 are welded peices of square tubing that support the 429

The bellhousing does not come off of a C6 trans. You will have to take the complete engine, (flywheel) and trans and put it in the 71.
You need engine perches, mounts, etc. from a 73-79 F-Series truck that came with a 460 from the factory. They are on Ebay from time to time or maybe someone here has a set they are willing to part with.

Just my :2cents: but I think you can swap the guts out of the 360's c6 into the 429's c6 :2cents:

check the DC catolog or NPD. The mounts that are in the 69 may be the same as the after market they sell.

so i guess were looking for a c6 tranny and we need it before we can swap the engine out and before we can get rid of the truck meaning it will sit in the street longer causing mom to nag and nag

actually we can still pull the engine and put it on a stand while we look for a tranny. hmmm
